In the nineteenth century, Five Points was New York’s most famous — and infamous — neighborhood, renowned for its poverty, crime, crowded tenements, and immigrants. This course will look at the creation of Five Points and the succeeding generations of Irish, Italian, and Chinese immigrants who lived there until its core, Mulberry Bend, was torn down in 1901.
