Join us at Bryant Park's Reading Room on Wednesday, September 2, from 7:00–8:00 PM for a special nonfiction conversation featuring Garrett M. Graff and his acclaimed oral history, The Only Plane in the Sky. Through first-hand accounts from passengers, air traffic controllers, first responders, military leaders, and government officials, Graff reconstructs the events of September 11 minute-by-minute, capturing the confusion, courage, and profound uncertainty of a nation under attack. Just days before the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Graff revisits the morning that permanently reshaped American identity and generations to come. A Pulitzer Prize finalist and bestselling journalist and historian, Graff has spent two decades covering politics, technology, and national security and is the author of ten books, including three landmark oral histories.
The Reading Room at Bryant Park is a free, open-air literary oasis in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM through October, it offers a thoughtfully curated selection of books, newspapers, and magazines for visitors to enjoy on the lawn beneath its signature yellow umbrellas or shaded trees. Now through September, the Reading Room offers a lineup of weekly literary programming, including author talks, poetry readings, film discussions, book clubs, and children’s StoryTime.
