Local author's memoir launches with book talk at St. Monica's Church

Marcella Luiso Flanagan, a longtime Upper East Side resident, has released her debut memoir, "American Destiny: A True Story of Family, Roots, and the Journey Between Two Worlds," co-authored with her niece, Phyllis Clare Orlowski. The book follows Flanagan's family's 1948 return to postwar Italy and the choice that shaped the rest of their lives.

Flanagan will hold a book talk at St. Monica's Church, 413 East 79th Street, on Thursday, October 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The event will feature a PowerPoint presentation and discussion of the book, with almond biscotti served. Signed copies will be available for $10, with all profits benefiting St. Monica's Church. The event is open to the community.
