The pioneering Sphinx Virtuosi string ensemble is the Sphinx Organization’s flagship performing entity. With “professional polish and populist energy,” these top-notch string players “light up Carnegie Hall annually” (New York Classical Review). This season, the musicians celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with a program of newly commissioned works and reimagined classics. Grammy-winning mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges joins the ensemble for the New York premiere of Damien Geter’s Declaration, co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall. The program also features Jessie Montgomery’s Banner, Stravinsky’s Concerto in D, Ravel’s “Blues” from Violin Sonata No. 2, selections from Perkinson’s Blue/s Forms, and a program-opening work by rising multidisciplinary composer Rachel McFarlane.
