California, 5 Other States Removed From NY Coronavirus Quarantine

NEW YORK CITY — Jet-setting between New York and Los Angeles no longer comes with a 14-day coronavirus quarantine.

California, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada and Ohio, as well as the Northern Mariana Islands, have been removed from the Empire State's list of quarantine states, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday.

Puerto Rico, however, has been added to the list because its COVID-19 infection rates slipped above safe thresholds, according to a release.

"When other states and territories make progress fighting COVID-19, that's good for New York and while I am glad to see areas removed from the travel advisory list, it still remains far too long," Cuomo said in a statement. "Make no mistake: We must continue to be New York Tough and stay smart. Wearing masks, social distancing and hand washing is what tamed this beast in New York and we must keep it up."

The update reopens easy travel between New York and California, the nation's most populous state and the West Coast's entertainment and cultural capital.

It leaves 30 states and territories on New York's quarantine list, meaning travelers from those areas must isolate themselves for 14 days upon arriving in the state.
