Carlos Beltran Steps Down As New York Mets Manager
Carlos Beltran, the recently named Mets manager, will step down from the role before managing a single game.

NEW YORK, NY — Carlos Beltran is stepping down as the manager of the New York Mets, the team announced on Thursday.
Beltran was the only player named in the MLB's investigation of the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal.
"We met with Carlos last night and again this morning and agreed to mutually part ways," Mets COO Jeff Wilpon and general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said in a statement Thursday.

Beltran steps down from the role less than three months after the Mets appointed him to the position.
The Mets signed Beltran on Nov. 1 to a three-year deal with an option for a fourth season. It was his first job as a manager in the MLB.

The news comes three days after the league revealed Monday that Beltran played a major role in the Astro's sign-stealing scandal as a player during the 2017 season. The publication of the report led Houston to fire general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch.
The Boston Red Sox also parted ways with manager Alex Cora on Tuesday after he admitted to wrongdoing during his time in Houston.
"Over my 20 years in the game, I've always taken pride in being a leader and doing things the right way, and in this situation, I failed," Beltran said in a statement given to ESPN. "I am a man of faith and integrity and what took place did not demonstrate those characteristics that are so very important to me and my family."
Over the course of Beltran's 20-year career the outfielder was named an All-Star nine times, and he finished his baseball playing tenure with 435 home runs.
Beltran played for the Mets from 2005 to 2011.
