NEWorks Productions has launched a dynamic campaign called ‘Freedom Advances’ to encourage voter participation for the 2024 U.S. presidential election. This non-partisan initiative creatively combines art, music, and social media to mobilize voters. Backed by stars like Debbie Allen, Carla Hall, and Billy Porter, the campaign aims to inspire Americans to take part in this election season.

Nolan Williams, Jr., CEO of NEWorks Productions, explains, “So often, we feel powerless in the face of national issues. With ‘Freedom Advances,’ we’re using music and video to call people to action.” His message is clear – voting is a vital, powerful tool.

According to a 2023 Pew Research study, youth turnout significantly impacts election outcomes, making these influencers’ involvement critical. Studies from the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) show that arts-based engagement campaigns resonate strongly with younger voters, as they tend to respond well to creative and social media-driven initiatives.

'Rise Up & Fight!' - A Historic Anthem for Change

An integral part of this campaign is Williams’s song, ‘Rise Up & Fight!’ The anthem reflects on the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Summer, which saw civil rights activists James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner killed by the Ku Klux Klan. Their story, revisited in this song, serves as a reminder of the fight for voting rights.

The music video, directed by Williams and animated by Willie Cordy Jr., has garnered numerous accolades, including “Best Lyric Video” from the International Music Video Competition. The powerful visuals and message remind Americans that, as the song says, “We’ve come too far to just resign. Today’s the day, now is the time.”

To reach young voters even more directly, NEWorks launched the Rise Up Song Challenge. This social media contest invited participants to remix NEWorks’ civic anthems, such as ‘Rise Up & Fight’ and ‘I Have a Right to Vote.’ The winners will perform at the Kennedy Center.

Williams notes, “Music, video, and social media reach audiences in ways traditional campaigns may not.” With a creative mix of celebrity voices, impactful messages, and youth engagement, ‘Freedom Advances’ stands as a powerful model for voter outreach. The campaign’s unique blend of arts and activism shows how cultural influence can empower voters and drive change.
