Chad Roffers highlights some underrepresented charities.

Chad Roffers, philanthropist, provides insight to charities that are underrepresented.

Many charities are well-known and millions of people donate to them every year. However, there are plenty of causes and charities that do not get the recognition they deserve, either because they do not spend much on marketing, or because their cause is obscure. Today, I am going to shine a light on a few of these underrecognized causes so you can look into them.

India Development and Relief Fund

Despite the name, the India Development and Relief Fund does not only operate in India. They also regularly work in Nepal, too. This charity provides disaster relief, health care, education, and many other great efforts. India has a high income disparity, so this charity provides service in a country that is often overlooked due to the wealth of the elite.

Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide

While there are many charities that protect the environment and others that allow lawyers to help those in need, there are few that combine the two. Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide does just that, providing lawyers and scientists with the resources they need to help fight for this great cause. If you already help the environment and want to take it a step further, look into this worthy charity.

Puppies Behind Bars

Puppies are frequently used both as service dogs and emotional support animals. Being around these cute pets can make anyone’s day better. This is why Puppies Behind Bars is so fantastic. Future service dogs are trained by inmates in local jails, then are donated to veterans or local law enforcement. This charity helps inmates by giving them a calming, structured activity, and then helps the community at large, making it a great place to donate to.

Heifer International

We all know the quote about teaching a man to fish, but that old adage is realized through Heifer International. Rather than simply giving impoverished people food, this charity allows donors to buy a farm animal for these families. Farm animals provide long-term sustenance, while also teaching a valuable skill. You can donate with the knowledge that you’re not just helping today, but for many months or years in the future.
