The Chinese-American Planning Council Hosted 2026 Annual Queens Special Needs Summer Festival
The Picnic celebrated families and caregivers of special needs community members
The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) today hosted its 2026 Queens Special Needs Summer Festival atthe Queens Botanical Garden.
The summer picnic honored caregivers and provided a fun and safe environment for individuals with developmental disabilities for a fun-filled day of food, games, and meaningful community connections.. More than 400 participants attended the event, which aimed to tackle the challenges faced by these individuals and their caregivers, including obstacles to accessing services such as homecare, transportation support, public assistance, and benefits.
CPC’s newly released 2026 FAIR Survey documents the barriers faced by individuals with developmental disabilities: 66% faced delays obtaining services in the past year; 76% needed an interpreter, but only 45% were satisfied with translation; and 46% reported depression.
