NYC Emergency Management Commissioner To Resign Next Month
Ex-mayor, Eric Adams, appointed Iscol to the position back in 2022.
NEW YORK CITY — New York City Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol is set to resign next month after four years on the job.
Iscol's last day in the position will be on Feb.11. Mayor Zohran Mamdani will now be tasked to appointing his successor.
Ex-mayor, Eric Adams, appointed Iscol to the position back in 2022. The agency is responsible with coordinating citywide emergency planning and response for severe weather events and natural disasters.

In his resignation letter obtained by multiple media outlets, Iscol said it had been "an extraordinary honor to serve the people of New York City.”
“I leave knowing the agency is in exceptionally strong hands. Four years ago, we carried nearly 60 vacancies and were still recovering from the operational strain of the pandemic,” he wrote.

“Today, all executive leadership positions are filled, and the agency is experiencing the highest retention and lowest vacancy rates in recent history. Most importantly, the team is better prepared and ready to meet the evolving threats facing our city.”
Before his time with the agency, Iscol served in the US Marines for six years and established a nonprofit for veterans struggling with mental health.
Iscol is the son of Ken Iscol and Jill Iscol. His father is a cellphone pioneer, while his mother was an advisor to former Secretary of State and former US Senator Hillary Clinton.
The 47-year-old briefly ran for New York City mayor in 2021.
