De Blasio Phased By Trekkies After He Claims He's Captain Kirk

NEW YORK CITY — Set your phasers to stun — the Twitterverse has not been, and never shall be, Mayor Bill de Blasio's friend.

De Blasio beamed up a tribble-load of trouble Thursday when he donned a blue Starfleet uniform to promote Halloween safety.

"This is my homage to Captain Kirk," he said with a smile.

But faster than William Shatner could say "Get a life!" Twitter Trekkies pointed out de Blasio had one big inaccuracy.

Captain James Tiberius Kirk doesn't wear a blue uniform, but a popular, pointy-eared officer does, they hailed.

"Actually he's dressed like Spock," one tweeted.

"Um, no. That's a sciences division uniform. Jesus f---," another tweeted.

Sam Raskin, a New York Post reporter, who haplessly repeated de Blasio's Trek mistake, summarized the matter in a Tweet: "Mayor Bill de Blasio *says* he’s dressed as Captain Kirk, but nerds familiar with the matter tell me that shirt is in fact not what the character wore. This is why attribution is important."

De Blasio, when asked by @C_Sommerfeldt about this:
"I always say I'm going to give credit where credit is due to the media. That's a good catch. I like the blue a lot, but you're right, it's historically inaccurate, but I'm still gonna wear it, because now we bought it."

De Blasio owned up to the "historically inaccurate" error after being photon torpedoed over it by a Daily News reporter.

"I always say I'm going to give credit where credit is due to the media, that's a good catch," he said.
