DraftKings Apologizes For 9/11-Themed Bet On NYC Teams

"Never Forget" read the since-deleted DraftKings parlay.

NEW YORK CITY — A Sept. 11-themed DraftKings bet was quickly pulled after receiving backlash Sunday night, but not before screenshots were shared across Twitter, sparking outrage and forcing the company to apologize.

The parlay for games on Monday — the 22nd anniversary of the terror attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania — was posted Sunday, featuring the words "Never Forget" across the top plus an invitation to place bets on the Mets, Yankees, and Jets.

"Counting down the minutes until DraftKings pulls this 'never forget' 9/11 parlay," wrote Nick Guy of the Wall Street Journal late Sunday.

DraftKings issued an apology in a statement shared with the Boston Globe.

"We sincerely apologize for the featured parlay that was shared briefly in commemoration of 9/11," DraftKings wrote. "We respect the significance of this day for our country and especially for the familys [sp] of those who were directly affected."

The Mets are playing Monday at Citi Field in New York City, while the Yankees are playing at Fenway Park in Boston, from where two of the hijacked planes departed, as noted by the Globe.

The Jets are playing at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which is close to Newark International Airport—from where the plane that crashed into a Shanksville, Pennsylvania field departed on Sept. 11, 2001.
