MANHATTAN, NEW YORK —

Nearly 100 people gathered at East River Park on Friday, 9/13 to discard garbage from East River Park and surrounding neighborhoods and to recycle disposed materials. Since July, Parley for the Oceans, a non-profit headquartered in New York City, has collected trash and recyclables in four of the five NYC boroughs so far with the last one set to happen in Brooklyn to clean waste both in bodies of water and on the shore to combat plastic waste.

Parley organized the Friday event in partnership with adidas Runners NYC and the Foundation for New York’s Strongest. Adidas Runners NYC is a community of running enthusiasts and the Foundation for New York's Strongest is a non-profit of the New York City Department of Sanitation. Since 2015, Parley has partnered with Adidas to make millions of Adidas shoes and sportswear out of recycled plastic ocean waste.
