NEW YORK CITY — Anxious New Yorkers wondering about their absentee ballots have a few ways to make sure their vote gets counted as Election Day unfolds.

New York City’s Board of Elections has an online ballot tracker for voters to track their ballot. All voters have to do is fill out their voter information to see their status.

But there’s a big catch for voters who may have mailed or returned their ballots in the last few days.

“Data in the system updates every 24 hours,” the site states.

That means recently-mailed may not show up on the system yet. So long as a ballot is postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by Nov. 10 it will be counted, but that might not be enough reassurance for some voters.

There is one surefire way to make sure your absentee ballot gets counted, provided you still have it — you can drop it off in person at a polling location.

And New Yorkers who returned absentee ballots but aren’t sure if they were received should know they can still vote in person.

“Even if you request or cast and return an absentee ballot, you may still go to the polls and vote in person,” according to the state’s Board of Elections. “The Election Law recognizes that plans change. The Board of Elections is required to check the poll book before canvassing any absentee ballot. If the voter comes to the poll site, on Election Day or during early voting and votes in person, the absentee ballot is set aside and not counted.”
