"Man" is a painting that embodies noted artist Vian Borchert's signature figurative expressionist modern work. The painting was created in 1998 in the acrylic on canvas medium. The artwork is historic where it represents a milestone in the artist's art journey and signifies V. Borchert as a pioneer in the abstract expressionist figurative style. Borchert who is primarily an anatomy and figurative artist in training, with this piece, aimed not to create a likeness but to capture the psychological aspect of the figure. Through the man's gaze towards the viewer, the painting creates an intellectual and thought provoking dialogue between the figure and the viewer. The painting represents the “everyday” man. Expressive facial features in the portrait exude depth and portray a thinking man. Much like Rodin’s “The Thinker” the painting not only represents deep thoughts but engages the audience through a deep cognitive level. Furthermore, artist V. Borchert extends her warm wishes through the fallen colorful confetti that flutters down in the heart of Times Square on New Year's Eve when the ball drops. So, look out for a special message full of hope and love in one of the fallen festive confetti on Times Square.
