Ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani Remains Hospitalized With Pneumonia

NEW YORK CITY — Former mayor Rudy Giuliani remains hospitalized as he deals with a case of pneumonia, according to his representatives.

His business partner, Tom von Essen, told reporters that Giuliani, 81, was hospitalized on Sunday and remains in critical but stable condition.

The former mayor's spokesman Ted Goodman told ABC News that Giuliani suffers from restrictive airway disease which "adds complications to any respiratory illness."

He added the virus quickly overwhelmed his body, requiring mechanical ventilation.

"He is now breathing on his own, with his family and primary medical provider at his side," Goodman said.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday wished Giuliani a speedy recovery.

"Absolutely, I'm wishing strength and recovery to former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his loved ones during this difficult time,” the mayor said. “And I hope that his recovery is steady, and I hope that his family finds peace in one another during this time.”

Giuliani served as the city's mayor from 1994 to 2001.

After his time in City Hall, Giuliani would later become President Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

Trump called Giuliani "a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR," in a social media post.
