NEW YORK CITY — A fake UPS worker delivered a terrifying holiday experience when he and another man forced themselves into a Bronx apartment, tied up a family and stole a piggy bank and $7,500, police said.

The two men remain on the loose after the harrowing robbery, which unfolded Monday about 5 p.m., NYPD officials said.

It began when a man carried a box up to an apartment inside 1860 Billingsley Terrace, near Roberto Clemente State Park, authorities said. A woman, 60, answered the door.

"The individual at the door, who stated he was UPS, was wearing a brown winter hat with 'UPS' on the front," an NYPD release states. "Upon the victim opening the door, the individual pushed her inside the apartment and revealed that he had a silver revolver inside of the box."

Another man joined the bogus UPS worker inside the apartment, where they told the woman, her husband, 63, and their two grandchildren — a boy, 8, and girl, 6 — to use zip ties to bind themselves, authorities said.

Once the family tied themselves up, the men stole two iPhones, an iPad and "personal documents," police said. They also removed more than $7,500 in cash from a safe and a children's piggy bank, authorities said.

The robbers then left the family, who were all uninjured in the robbery, behind.

Police said the first man had a medium build, light complexion, brown face mask, brown jacket, green hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes, in addition to his brown hat with "UPS."

The second man had a medium build, dark complexion, black face mask, black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
