Frank James Upgraded To 'Suspect' In Brooklyn Subway Attack: Mayor
A massive manhunt is underway for James, who police said shot 10 people during a bloody Sunset Park subway station attack.

NEW YORK CITY — Frank Robert James is now considered a suspect in a shocking Brooklyn subway attack that left 23 people injured, Mayor Eric Adams said Wednesday.
A massive manhunt is underway for James, 62, who was previously considered a person of interest in the Tuesday morning mass shooting in Sunset Park, authorities said.
NYPD officials Wednesday morning released a renewed call for help tracking down James.

"On 4/12/22 at 8:30 AM, Frank Robert James fired numerous gun shots inside an 'N' line subway car at 36th St & 4th Ave subway station causing serious injuries to 10 people," NYPDnews tweeted. "Anyone with info about the incident or his whereabouts should contact @NYPDTips or call 1-800-577-TIPS."

Adams and other officials spent Wednesday morning providing updates on the investigation, including forcefully swatting down reports that James was, in fact, in custody.

"Again, Frank James is a suspect in yesterday’s shooting," tweeted Fabien Levy, the mayor's press secretary.
"Let me make clear: He is NOT in NYPD custody at this time."
James has ties to New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Ohio, authorities said.
NYPD officials tied him to the attack by a U-Haul key found in the N train car in which a gas-masked shooter detonated two smoke grenades before firing at least 33 shots at straphangers.
Ten people suffered gunshot wounds in the attack, while another 13 were treated for injuries ranging from smoke inhalation, falls and panic attacks, police said.
