Free Parents' Night Out Program Launches In NYC

Families must register online between July 13 and July 20 and may select only one location.

NEW YORK, NY— The City launched the first Parents' Night Out, a one-night drop-off program, allowing children to participate in supervised activities at recreation centers while parents spend the evening on their own.

The free program will take place at five NYC Parks recreation centers, one in each borough, with activities led by trained Parks staff.

Children will participate in sports, games, arts and crafts, fitness programs, media education activities and nature exploration with Urban Park Rangers.

Dinner will also be provided.

"Every parent knows that a few hours to yourself can feel like a luxury," Mamdani said. "It shouldn't be."

He said the program is designed to give parents time to "catch a movie, run errands or go on a date without worrying about who will take care of the kids — or how much it will cost."

The program is open to children who:

  • Are between 6 and 13 years old by Aug. 16
  • Obtain a free NYC Parks Recreation Center membership.
  • Submit the required event waiver.

Recreation center memberships are free for children.

Registration is required and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Walk-in registration will not be accepted.

Families must register online between July 13 and July 20 and may select only one location.

After registering, families will receive instructions for completing the required waiver and obtaining a free recreation center membership before the event.
