Gridlock Alert, Transit Restrictions Hit NYC: Here's What To Know
Drivers should expect delays across Midtown as France and Senegal draw thousands to NYNJ Stadium.
NEW YORK, NY — New York City officials declared a Gridlock Alert Day ahead of the second FIFA World Cup 2026 match at NYNJ Stadium, warning commuters and visitors to expect significant traffic delays as a weekday match coincides with the evening rush.
France and Senegal are scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m.
The match marks the first World Cup game at NYNJ Stadium to take place on a weekday, creating transportation challenges across Manhattan during one of the busiest travel periods of the day.

“Public transportation is the easiest way to get to NYNJ Stadium,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani said.
To accommodate match-day travel, shuttle and bus corridors will activate at 9 a.m. and remain in effect until 8 p.m. A

Access will be restricted to NYNJ Stadium shuttle buses, MTA local buses, official World Cup affiliate vehicles and emergency responders.
The restrictions will affect:
- 42nd Street from First Avenue to Twelfth Avenue.
- Two lanes along Sixth Avenue from 42nd Street to 59th Street.
- Two lanes along Fifth Avenue from 42nd Street to 59th Street.
- West 40th Street between Eighth Avenue and 11th Avenue.
- West 41st Street between Eighth Avenue and 10th Avenue.
