Gunman On Scooter Kills 1, Wounds 3 In Shootings Across 2 NYC Boroughs

An 87-year-old died and two people were seriously injured after a scooter-riding gunman fired shots in Brooklyn and Queens, the NYPD said.

NEW YORK CITY — A gunman on a scooter killed an elderly man and wounded three people after going on a shooting spree in Brooklyn and Queens, New York City Police officials said Saturday.

The 25-year-old man is in custody, and police recovered an extended magazine and a scooter according to Assistant Police Chief Joseph Kenny.

“We don’t know the motive. It seems his acts were random,” Kenny said.

Police have not identified the accused gunman, or the 87-year-old who died as a result of the shooting.

The NYPD said there were five shootings carried out during the spree by someone on a scooter, one in Brooklyn and four in Queens. In one instance, no one was injured.

Police pulled an image of the gunman from video and sent it to phones of officers, some of whom spotted the suspect about two hours after the first shooting according to the Associated Press.

Officials said the shootings began around 11:10 a.m. when a suspect on a scooter shot a 21-year-old man in the shoulder in Brooklyn. He was brought to a hospital and is expected to survive, according to the NYPD.

An 87-year-old man was shot multiple times in the Richmond Hill area of Queens around 11:27 a.m. He later died at a hospital, said police.

Shortly afterward in Queens, witnesses reported a man on a scooter firing randomly into a group of people, although nobody was hurt according to police.

Eight minutes later, a 44-year-old man was shot in the face. He was in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, said police.

About one minute later, a 63-year-old man was shot in the torso. He was in stable condition at a hospital, police said.
