Hack Links NYPD Officers To Far-Right Group: Report

NEW YORK CITY — Hacked records from the far-right Oath Keepers tied at least two NYPD active members to the militia group, a new report states.

The report by Gothamist detailing potential links between New York City law enforcement officers, public officials and anti-government groups prompted concern from Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“That’s very, very troubling to me that anyone would want to be a part of that, and we need a full investigation and it will be a full investigation to find out,” he said Thursday.

Gothamist investigated a trove of hacked online records from the Oath Keepers — a group with an outsize and active presence during the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Hackers targeted the group and released their emails and membership records to the Distributed Denial of Secrets, a group that shares leaked data with journalists and researchers, Gothamist reported.

The data didn't show whether two NYPD officers listed were still active members, and Gothamist did not name them. Gothamist did identify the officers as a sergeant in the NYPD's Firearms and Tactics Session and a Staten Island officer assigned to a group that often quells protests.
