NYC Weather: Heavy Rain Set To Drench City

Friday's forecast carries a 100 percent chance of up to 0.75 inches of heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

NEW YORK CITY — Wave goodbye to the last few days of mild, sunny fall weather — heavy, drenching rain is headed to New York City.

Friday carries a 100 percent of rain along with breezy conditions and a potential thunderstorm, National Weather Service forecasters said.

And the rain won't be a soft drizzle.

"New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible," the National Weather Service forecast states.

The rain will start late Thursday or early Friday, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the forecast. Temperatures will rise overnight from 56 degrees to 65 degrees as rain moves in.

The relatively balmy temperatures and wet conditions likely won't last through the weekend.

Saturday carries a 30 percent chance of rain, with highs near 58 degrees, the forecast states.

Rain will leave the forecast altogether on Sunday, when highs are expected to be 50 degrees, according to the forecast.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Temperature falling to around 61 by 1pm. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 23 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

A 30 percent chance of showers before 7pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 48. West wind 5 to 11 mph.
