Hunger Action Month - How You Can Take Action And Help Drive Hope

Join City Harvest now by helping take action against the hunger crisis and help raise awareness in your community

We are just getting into the full swing of Hunger Action Month: Feeding America’s nationwide campaign mobilizing the public to take action against hunger. City Harvest, New York City’s largest food rescue organization, urges readers to take action now and get involved in your community.

Here are several ways you can make an impact and help your neighborhood fight the ongoing hunger crisis!

  • Double Your Impact For Hunger Action Month: To help City Harvest rescue and deliver as much food for as many New Yorkers as possible, two generous friends of City Harvest are matching all gifts, dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000, until September 30th. That means that every dollar you give will help feed not 2, but 4 New Yorkers for a day. You can donate here, to make your gift go twice as far.
  • Sign Up To Become a Volunteer: City Harvest is looking for volunteers now more than ever as it ramps up food operations. Whether you are interested in volunteering on your own or with a group, City Harvest welcomes the help. You can find more information on becoming a volunteer here.
  • Join City Harvest’s Social Media Campaign: For the month of September, City Harvest is running a campaign called “Let’s Drive Hope Together.” Help get the word out by sharing on your own social media. Some ideas/inspirations to jump start your participation include: “As New Yorkers, we never give up” and “As New Yorkers, we take care of each other.” You can check out the full social media guidelines here.
  • Run With City Harvest: As an eight-time Charity Partner of the TCS New York City Marathon, City Harvest has partnered with them to create a virtual ‘Marathon & Running Club” in lieu of this year’s marathon. You can find more information on how to donate and/or participate here.
  • Advocate for Policies That Help New Yorkers: City Harvest has worked with partners in communities across the city to ensure that residents stay informed about anti-hunger policies and programs. In order to get involved, City Harvest has put together a primer on how you can get involved and have your voice heard. Check it out here for more information!
