NEW YORK CITY — Remnants of Hurricane Ida — which inundated Louisiana with heavy rains and caused mass power outages — will blow into New York City this week, forecasters warn.

The city is under a hazardous weather outlook and flash flood watch Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Flooding is a serious concern as storm remnants bring substantial rainfall into the region, meteorologists warned.

“A widespread 3 to 5 inches of rain is forecast with locally higher amounts possible. This rainfall combined with wet antecedent conditions may lead to flash flooding,” the outlook states.

Hurricane Ida slammed into Louisiana as one of the most powerful storms to hit the U.S. mainland. It also did so on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

The storm left more than 1 million customers without power and caused widespread damage and flooding.

Meteorologists downgraded Ida to a tropical storm, but it's expected to bring severe weather, rain and flooding as it moves from the Tennessee and Ohio River valleys Tuesday and up along East Coast states Wednesday.
