Justice Dept. Opens Criminal Investigation Into NYC Migrant Shelters
Federal prosecutors have sent subpoenas to the Roosevelt Hotel and Stewart Hotel.
NEW YORK CITY — The Justice Department has launched a criminal investigation involving two Manhattan hotels being used as migrant shelters, according to reports.
The investigation is reportedly focused on an alleged violation of federal immigration law. Federal officials have requested names, identifying information, and funding details in connection to migrants being housed there, according to FOX5 NY.
Federal prosecutors have sent subpoenas to the Roosevelt Hotel and Stewart Hotel, CBS News reported.

Prosecutors have also issued a subpoena to the Hotel Chandler — which is not being used as a migrant shelter but a homeless shelter.
The subpoenas were issued by the Southern District of New York, according to reports.

Midtown's Roosevelt Hotel has operated as the site of the city's largest migrant shelter and intake center over the past three years.
In February, it was reported that the shelter is beginning the process of shutting down.
According to Mayor Eric Adams, 232,000 migrants entered New York City in the past three years.
Now, just 350 migrants are arriving per week in New York City, down from 4,000 per week, Adams said.
Deputy Mayor for Communications Fabien Levy previously told Patch there is no official last day for the Midtown shelter.
THE CITY has reported that The Roosevelt Hotel shelter will close by the end of June.
