NEW YORK — The first ticker-tape parade in Knicks history will celebrate the NBA champions with pomp and fanfare Thursday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced following the team’s victory on Saturday night.

The Knicks are champions of the NBA for the first time since 1973, beating the San Antonio Spurs in five games for the title. The clincher came in a 94-90 victory, the Knicks' fourth comeback win of the series.

“For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment,” Mamdani said in a news release. “Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks. And this team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart — just like the five boroughs itself.”

In addition to the parade, the Knicks will be awarded Keys to the City in a ceremony on Thursday at City Hall, and City Hall, the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building and Brooklyn Borough Hall will be illuminated in blue and orange.

Few details of the parade had been announced as of Sunday evening, but Mamdani did say during a live interview on WFAN that it would run along the Canyon of Heroes, according to a transcript of the interview published on the mayor's office website.
