NEW YORK CITY — The latest long-term weather forecast predicts this winter will be a warm one for New York City - contradicting other meteorologists who are preparing for a chilly, snowy season.

So it's down to who you believe: the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, AccuWeather or the Farmers' Almanac.

The latest forecast comes from NOAA. It says La Nina climate conditions, which warm or cool seas and affect the weather around the world, mean the Northeast will see above-average temperatures this year.

But AccuWeather's forecast, released earlier in October, warns of wintry weather as early as November, while the Farmers' Almanac is expecting a snowy January and February and a big storm in March.

The NOAA forecast covers three months, December-February.

NOAA’s seasonal outlooks provide a look at the likelihood temperatures and total precipitation amounts will be above, near or below average, as well as how drought conditions are anticipated to change in the months ahead. The outlook does not project seasonal snowfall accumulations, as snow forecasts are generally not predictable more than a week in advance.

NOAA is expected to update the winter outlook on Nov. 19.
