National Meal Prep Day is fast approaching on June 9. Planning meals ahead of time is a great way to manage busy schedules. It not only ensures healthy, homemade meals are ready when you need them, but also emphasizes the benefits of preservative-free home-cooked food.

The startup, A Better Meal, helps users simplify their meal planning woes. It has introduced a mobile app for meal planning, organizing grocery lists, shopping, and preparing delicious meals without the stress.

Necessity: The Mother of All Inventions

Houston-based entrepreneur Mark Semmelbeck launched A Better Meal in March 2024. The idea for the startup sprouted from a personal experience close to Semmelbeck’s heart.

“During the pandemic, I watched my daughter and her husband juggle a busy schedule while trying to cook healthy meals for their two kids. I imagined technology could make their lives easier so I started developing the software for A Better Meal, now a mobile app that makes meal planning simpler for families,” said founder Semmelbeck.

The plan can be tweaked by adding or deleting recipes, scouting for new ones, or even importing recipes from social media or the web. Plus, if there are handwritten recipes lying around, users can simply upload them, and A Better Meal will convert them into digital text for easy access.

Semmelbeck adds “Many people, like my daughter, get recipes from social media sites, like Instagram and Pinterest. With A Better Meal, users can import these recipes into their personal recipe catalogs and all the details are saved. We’re using AI to improve the accuracy and speed of gathering this information, as well as the ability to make modifications to recipes to accommodate food allergies and health issues or even to make recipes healthier. Also, by combining AI with our nutritionists’ and chefs’ input, our goal is to decrease the stress and increase the joy of feeding your family.”

A Better Meal works with popular grocery apps, making it easy to create a shopping list with just one click. Bonus: the list can be shared with friends or family. And when it's cooking time, the app provides step-by-step instructions on your device, complete with a touch-free feature to keep your screen clean while you cook.

Latest statistics say that 34% of US consumers plan their meals a day or two before making them. Helping consumers reduce stress in meal preparation directly contributes to their enjoyment of a well-made meal, a role brands like A Better Meal can fulfill. The app is available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
