Love, Grief, and the Long Arm of the Law

Starting today, July 14, audiences around the world can stream In God's Hands, the new crime-faith drama from Breaking Glass Pictures that's been quietly racking up festival wins ahead of its global release.

The premise starts as a straightforward thriller setup: Detectives Tyrell Banks and Zolana Reed go undercover as a married couple hoping to adopt, working to take down a criminal ring trafficking stolen children. The stakes are life and death from the first scene. But the film's real tension isn't in the case. It's in what the case forces open.

Tyrell is still raw with grief over the death of his wife, Mariela, a man whose faith runs deep and whose loyalty runs deeper. As the undercover assignment pushes him into constant, intimate proximity with Zolana, feelings he never asked for start to surface. He doesn't welcome them. He fights them. That internal war, playing out against a desperate race to save children, is what gives In God's Hands its emotional weight, turning a crime drama into something closer to a meditation on grief, guilt, and the possibility of a second chance. It's a follow-up to Three Days or Else, and picks up Tyrell's story with a director determined to treat faith as something lived-in rather than decorative.

For director Ralph Cinque, the film's spiritual core isn't incidental; it's the reason the film exists. "It was inspired by my father, Mark Cinque, when he was on his deathbed," Cinque shares. "He started talking about how his Christian faith had supported him during the hardest, darkest times in his life. It's the goodness of people of faith that gets to me every time." That question — are we carried through our darkest moments by grace, or are we being tested to find strength within ourselves — sits at the center of the film. Cinque's answer is that it's not really a choice between the two. "The flow of events in our lives surely goes beyond our control and planning," he reflects, "but people do derive strength from their faith."

Joy White stars as Detective Zolana Reed, a role Cinque speaks about with striking directness, pointing to her earlier performance as Dovey Roundtree in Dovey's Promise as reason enough for the casting: "Her portrayal of Dovey Roundtree is, to this day, the most prodigious feat of acting I have ever seen. She was made to order to play Lana Reed." Notably, it was White herself who suggested Claude Xavier for the role of Tyrell — a call that paid off in the chemistry on screen. "They were very comfortable together on camera," Cinque says. "They supported each other, got very good at reading each other's signals, and spent a great deal of time rehearsing together outside of the set."

Ahead of its streaming debut, In God's Hands has been a consistent presence on the festival circuit, winning or placing as a top honoree for Best Feature Film at the Accolade Global Competition, the Greater Conroe Film Festival, the Florence Film Awards, the Hollywood Gold Awards, the Paris Film Awards, Cinema World Fest, and the South Cinematic Academy for Film and Arts. The film's leads have drawn individual recognition as well. Claude Xavier has received acting honors from the Accolade Global Competition, Florence Film Awards, International Gold Awards, London Movie Awards, Milan Gold Awards, Paris Film Awards, and the South Cinematic Academy for Film and Arts. Joy White has been recognized by the Accolade Global Competition, Florence Film Awards, London Movie Awards, and the New York Movie Awards.
