Mamdani Talks Immigration, Protecting Cities With Minneapolis Mayor

Zohran Mamdani and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey discussed public safety and support for immigrant communities during a meeting in NYC.

NEW YORK, NY— Mayor Zohran Mamdani met with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Thursday afternoon in NYC to discuss "shared values" concerning city safety, particularly the rise of ICE arrests and detainers in both cities.

City Hall released a statement regarding the discussion, according to WABC.

The statement reported that Mamdani and Frey "discussed their shared values when it comes to keeping our cities safe, as well as standing up for our vibrant immigrant communities."

Mayor Frey has previously expressed opposition to the increased presence of ICE agents in Minneapolis. He has also spoken against the tactics used by these agents, particularly following the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. His visit to New York City included this meeting with Mamdani.

Following their discussion, Mayor Frey posted an update on social media.

He stated that he had a productive conversation with Mamdani about public safety challenges. Frey noted the impact of federal actions on local governments.

"Today I had a meaningful conversation with @NYCMayor about the reality local governments are facing," Frey wrote.

He added:

"When federal government targets immigrant communities, it's cities that feel it first - and cities that step up."
