Man Fatally Falls Off Manhattan Bridge While Running From Crash: NYPD

Police don't yet know why the man, 25, ran from a two-car crash early Tuesday and ultimately plunged onto a Lower Manhattan street.

NEW YORK CITY — A 25-year-old man plunged to his death from the Manhattan Bridge while running from a crash, police said.

Police didn't yet know why the man ran from the early Tuesday wreck on the bridge, or even whether he jumped or fell, officials said.

The bizarre incident unfolded about 1:05 a.m. when the man's vehicle struck an Uber on the bridge's lower level, police said.

After the crash, the man darted off and ultimately plunged from the bridge onto the roadway below near Henry and Forsyth streets, authorities said.

Officers arrived to find him unconscious with severe trauma to his body, NYPD officials said. Medics took him to nearby New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, officials said.

A woman who was a passenger in the Uber was also taken to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. The Uber's driver complained of pain but didn't go to the hospital, authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.
