Meet an “Amazing” Who Backs Up Her Love of Her Community With Service

Doris Diether, 85, has devoted over 50 years of service to the preservation of the unique character of Greenwich Village.

Doris Diether, 85, has devoted over 50 years of service and vigorous activism to the preservation of the unique character of Greenwich Village (serving on Community Board ) - for which she was recently honored with a special event hosted by the New York City Council - a devotion which continues to this day.

Her love of the community the Village represents, from its architecture to its parks, people, even the
squirrels and birds, is legendary in her neighborhood. People recognize her and greet her on her daily walks through Washington Square Park, including the artist and puppeteer Ricky Syers. Ricky makes spitting-image marionettes of the people he encounters, and his marionette of Doris is a big favorite with Park visitors. Including with Doris!
