On Mekahel Pays Homage to Avicii

His new pop single, "Last Time," celebrates life, healing, and the resilience found in moving on from a lost love.

Reality television star turned pop artist On Mekahel is out now with “Last Time”, his highly anticipated single that serves as a heartfelt tribute to the late electronic dance music DJ Avicii. The song incorporates country influences and Middle Eastern flair, drawing parallels to Avicii’s iconic hit, “Wake Me Up”. It is also a deeply personal project for the singer.

Following a high-profile breakup that was broadcast during the first season of his Revry original reality series, Putting On, “Last Time” reflects On Mekahel’s transformative journey from heartbreak to healing and newfound happiness. “When my heart was broken, I thought I’d never love again,” On shares. “But here I am, the happiest I’ve ever been, with the greatest love I could ever dream of.” The song’s message is one of resilience. It encourages listeners to embrace life’s challenges, celebrate its beauty, and find strength in its struggles.

The concept for “Last Time” came to On during a workout session while listening to Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”. “It’s one of those songs that always makes me feel good, no matter what,” he says. Determined to create a track with a similar uplifting vibe, On collaborated with songwriters Or Milshtok and Omri Kesten to craft lyrics that narrated his personal journey. Produced by Lorenzo Cosi, with mixing and mastering by Ran Ziv, the single’s festival-ready sound radiates positivity and joy.

Avicii’s influence on On’s artistry is profound. Known for seamlessly blending electronic beats with acoustic elements, Avicii’s fearless approach to music inspired On to infuse his signature Middle Eastern touch into the track. “Avicii’s music makes me feel happy and connected,” On explains. “I wanted to honor his legacy by creating something that captures the same emotional depth and energy.”
