New Program Will Allow New Yorkers To Get Free Tickets To The Met Opera

NEW YORK CITY — New York City and the Metropolitan Opera have teamed up to launch “Opera for All,” a long-term partnership that will provide 70,000 free tickets during the 2026–27 season to New Yorkers who have not previously attended a performance at the Met.

Beginning this month, the Met will release 10,000 tickets each month through a lottery, representing about 10% of the season’s tickets.

New Yorkers who have not purchased a Met Opera ticket since 2019 are eligible to enter through the Met’s website or app. Tickets will be available throughout the house, excluding standing room.

This season’s performances include Macbeth, Lincoln in the Bardo and La Bohème.

The Met’s 2026–27 season includes five new productions and 12 repertory productions.

The city will help promote and distribute tickets through agencies and organizations including the Department of Social Services, NYCHA, New York City Public Schools, the New York Public Library, CUNY, the Department for the Aging and Situation Project.

The Metropolitan Opera has committed to continuing the program in future seasons.
