🌱No Omicron Shutdowns, Mayor Says + Adams Vow |NYC Daily Digest
NYC Daily: The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in New York City.

Welcome to the weekend! It's Saturday in New York City and everyone still has the omicron jitters.
And those jitters are justified — New York City's daily number of COVID-19 nearly doubled this week to more than 10,000. The state itself topped 21,000 cases in a single day. In the face of this spiraling situation, Mayor Bill de Blasio had this to say about potential school and business shutdowns: "No, no, no." Hizzoner says vaccinations will help avert a return to the dark days of March 2020. De Blasio On Omicron School, Business Shutdowns: 'No, No, No'
One day. That's how long mayor-elect Eric Adams said violent inmates can expect their reprieve from solitary confinement will last once he takes office. Adams faced a backlash from advocates after he said he'd immediately reverse de Blasio's planned Dec. 31 solitary confinement ban. Adams Faces Backlash Over Vow To Bring Back Solitary Confinement
Another Adams grabbed attention Thursday. Adrienne Adams — no relation to Eric — declared victory for the second time this week in the race to be the next City Council speaker. Unlike her first declaration, her rival Francisco Moya conceded defeat. Adrienne Adams Again Announces Victory In Council Speaker Race

About me: I cover the citywide beat for Patch NYC after reporting on my beloved home borough of Brooklyn. Before Patch, I kicked around newspapers and other outlets in Indiana, Michigan and New York City. Along the way I've sat through innumerable trials and public meetings, picked up a national investigative reporting award, reported on televangelists flying private jets, among many other mundane, noteworthy or strange reporting experiences. In my free time, I'm a big movie buff, an aspiring home cook and am forever seeking good natural areas.
