New York City Fire Museum Hosts 3rd Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser
June 22 Benefit honors John J. Hodgens, FDNY Chief of Department & Matt Duthie, RPA Chairman, Building Owners & Managers Association NY
On June 22nd, the New York City Fire Museum will host its 3rd annual Golf Outing at the beautiful Muttontown Club in East Norwich, Long Island to raise funds to support the Museum’s mission to preserve, educate, and celebrate the history and modern-day heroism of the FDNY.
At the event, the Museum will honor: John J. Hodgens, Chief of Department at FDNY, and Matt Duthie, RPA Chairman, Building Owners & Managers Association NY Senior VP, Newmark Property Management.
The outing begins at 11:00 AM with registration and brunch. Throughout the day, attendees can meet with sponsors offering amenities, participate in a silent auction and raffle, and enjoy plenty of opportunities to network and relax. The day will be capped off with a cocktail and dinner reception at 6:00 PM.

“This annual benefit sustains the Museum’s ability to provide ongoing programming to people of all ages and to present dynamic and engaging exhibitions,” says Jennifer Brown, Director of the New York City Fire Museum. “We teed up to honor two longtime supporters of the Museum and our work, and look forward to a successful event.”
About John J. Hodgens
The Chief of Department, appointed by the Fire Commissioner, is the highest-ranking uniformed position in the FDNY. The current Chief of Department is John J. Hodgens.

Chief Hodgens is a 36-year veteran who has most recently served as Chief of Fire Operations. He will oversee the Department’s 16,000 uniformed Firefighters and EMS personnel and four major agency Bureaus: Fire Operations, EMS Operations, Training, and Fire Prevention. He succeeds former Chief of Department Thomas Richardson, who retired earlier this year after 40 years of service.
As Chief of Fire Operations, Chief Hodgens has overseen the day-to-day work of more than 11,000 Firefighters and fire officers, as well as dozens of high-ranking Staff Chiefs, Deputy Chiefs and Battalion Chiefs.
Chief Hodgens joined the Department in 1986, and his first assignment was at Ladder Company 11 in Manhattan. He worked there until his promotion to Lieutenant in 1998, when he was transferred to Battalion 41 in Brooklyn, and was later assigned to Ladder Company 157 in Flatbush. Five years later, he was promoted to Captain and worked in the 8th Division on Staten Island, later becoming the officer in charge of Ladder Company 87 in Eltingville. In 2006, he was promoted to Battalion Chief and assigned to Battalion 38, where he and Chief Richardson served together for five years. In 2012, he was promoted to Deputy Chief and served as the Division Commander of Division 8, responsible for fire companies assigned to Staten Island and Brooklyn.
He has been cited for bravery twice in his career, including the rescue of an unconscious occupant from a fire in a Lower East Side apartment building in 1992 as a Firefighter in Ladder Company 11. He was awarded the Emerald Society Medal for his heroic actions.
He studied at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Columbia Southern University, receiving a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Fire Science and Emergency Management. He also graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School – Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s Executive Leadership Program (2021), the FDNY’s Advanced Leadership Course (2014) and the Officers Management Institute (2013).
Chief Hodgens’ father, John J. Hodgens Sr., also rose to the rank of Chief, and served as the Chief of Fire Prevention. He retired in 1997 as an Assistant Chief after 32 years of service.
About Matt Duthie
As senior vice president of property management services, Matt Duthie is responsible for the oversight and growth of Newmark’s management portfolio in New York and the implementation of best practices, policies and procedures that maximize the value of his clients' real estate assets. He provides expert knowledge in management and operations, including expense reduction, innovative resources, procurement and forward-thinking property operations and staffing. Matt is also responsible for business
development to maximize market share and profitability for the region.
Matt brings more than 35 years of commercial real estate management experience to his position. He most recently served as a managing director at Jones Lang LaSalle, where he was charged with leading the firm's Property Management Group in New York City, overseeing a 15 million-square-foot office portfolio. Previously, Matt was an
executive vice president responsible for property management and construction at
Ruben Companies.
Earlier, Matt was senior vice president, co-director of Reckson Associates' Manhattan
division, where he was responsible for the start-up and integration of the company's
Manhattan division and handled the daily operations of its 6 million-square-foot portfolio
of Class A office property in the city. He was also actively involved in all due diligence
for Reckson Associates' acquisitions in New York.

To reach the Museum by subway, take the “C” or “E” train (8th Avenue Local) to Spring Street. Walk west 1½ blocks. Alternately, take the “1” train (IRT) to Houston Street. Walk south along Varick Street for 4 blocks to Spring Street. Walk west ½ block. To reach the Museum via bus, take the M10 or M21 to Spring Street.
