NEW YORK, NY — The state's tax deadline and presidential primary election will both be moved due to the new coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday.

The governor said at a press conference about the coronavirus on Saturday that he will issue and executive order to move the Democratic presidential primary, slated for April 28, to June 23 and push back the tax deadline from April 15 to July 15.

"I don’t think its wise to be bringing a lot of people to one location to vote," Cuomo said.

The new date for the state tax deadline is the same as the federal deadline, which was postponed earlier this month due to coronavirus.

The executive order comes as coronavirus cases spike to 52,318 people in New York, 29,766 in New York City on Saturday morning, according to Cuomo.
