The New York Public Library, which serves the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island, currently has 50 branches open for grab-and-go service.

While it did temporarily offer extended services, such as desktop computer use and limited browsing, in 14 of those locations, following New York State's designation of Staten Island as a "Yellow Precautionary Zone" and the overall unfavorable trends in NYC, the Library decided to be extra cautious and limit service to grab and go. Additionally, the Library decided to suspend in-person appointments at its four research centers while still providing robust remote services.

These difficult decisions were made in conjunction with safety experts and out of an abundance of caution to help best mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
