NYC 2017-18 School Year Calendar: First Day of School, Vacations, Conferences
The 2017-2018 school year calendar, containing the year's most important dates, was released by the city on March 20.

NEW YORK, NY — New York City kids and parents should mark Sept. 7, 2017 down on their calendars. The day will become one of the most dreaded of the year for more than one million young New Yorkers: the first day of school.
The city Department of Education released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools on March 20. The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.
Here are some dates to remember:

- Sept. 7: First day of school.
- Sept. 8: First day for kindergarten students.
- Sept. 13: Elementary school parent-teacher conferences.
- Sept. 21-22: Rosh Hashanah (no school).
- Sept. 26: Middle school parent-teacher conferences.
- Sept. 28: High school parent-teacher conferences.
- Oct. 9: Columbus Day (observed).
- Nov. 7: Election Day (no school).
- Nov. 9-10: High school parent-teacher conferences.
- Nov. 13-14: District 75 school programs parent-teacher conferences.
- Nov. 15-16: Elementary school parent-teacher conferences.
- Nov. 23-24: Thanksgiving recess.
- Nov. 29-30: Middle school parent-teacher conferences.
- Dec. 25-Jan.1: Winter recess.
- Jan. 15: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (no school).
- Jan. 26: Regent scoring day (no high school).
- Jan. 29: Chancellor's conference day (no high school).
- Jan. 30: First day of high school spring term.
- Feb. 16-23: Lunar New Year and midwinter recess.
- March 6-7: Middle school parent-teacher conferences.
- March 8-9: High school parent-teacher conferences.
- March 12-13: District 75 school programs parent-teacher conferences.
- March 14-15: Elementary school parent-teacher conferences.
- May 3: High school parent-teacher conferences.
- May 9: Middle school parent-teacher conferences.
- May 23: Elementary school parent-teacher conferences.
- March 30-April 6: Spring recess.
- May 28: Memorial day (no school).
- June 7: Anniversary day (no school).
- June 11: Clerical day (no elementary, middle and District 75 school).
- June 15: Eid al-Fitr (no school).
- June 22: Regents rating day (no high school).
- June 26: Last day of school.
