NYC-Area Airports Rank Among The Most Stressful In US: New Study

The findings may not come as a surprise to New Yorkers.

NEW YORK CITY — Three New York City area airports are among the most stressful in the nation, according to a new study.

While the declaration may not come as a surprise to New Yorkers, a new study by Mozio looked at travel time to the airports, on‑time departures and parking costs, among other factors — and the three airports did not fair well.

LaGuardia Airport ranked second nationwide with daily parking rate of $80 — the highest rate of all airports included in the study, and had an average drive of around an hour from Manhattan.

In addition, the airport had 76 percent of its flights departing within 15 minutes of schedule. Overall, Mozio gave LaGuardia a stress score of 7.54 out of 10.

JFK Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport both were in third place each earning a score of 7.19 out of 10 from Mozio.

"JFK handles huge passenger volumes, and while almost 8 in 10 (78.3 percent) flights depart within 15 minutes of schedule, the overall experience remains stressful. Parking costs $70 per day, and the drive to Times Square takes about 56 minutes, which can be even longer in heavy traffic," Mozio wrote in their write-up.

Newark is similar to JFK with 76.20 percent on-time rate for departing flights and has a $70 parking fee per day.

The most stressful airport in the U.S. was Chicago O'Hare International Airport with an airport stress score of 8.42 out of 10
