NYC Central Park Mega-Concert Lineup Unveiled, Will Be Vax-Only

NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers already knew Paul Simon, Jennifer Hudson and Bruce Springsteen would serenade the city from Central Park.

But Tuesday they learned who else will perform at the historic mega-concert celebrating the city's recovery from the coronavirus pandemic dubbed "We Love New York City: The Homecoming Concert" — Jon Batiste, LL Cool J, Wyclef Jean, Carlos Santana with Rob Thomas, Journey, Patti Smith and many more.

“I’ve never heard of a concert with that kind of lineup,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said after legendary producer and concert organizer Clive Davis rattled off the lineup.

The Aug. 21 mega-show has been teased for weeks by de Blasio, but his daily briefing gave the first full picture of its lineup and logistics.

And he also dropped a significant piece of news as to who can attend — only people vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“If you want to go to this concert, you need to show proof of vaccination,” he said.

The vaccination requirement dovetails with a recent shift by city government from a light-touch voluntary approach toward shots to strict mandates. About 71 percent of New York City adults have received at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine, but fears of the highly contagious delta variant's spread prompted de Blasio to issue a vaccine-or-testing requirement for all city workers.

De Blasio said 80 percent of tickets will be free.

Citi card members will have access to presale tickets starting July 29 at 10 a.m.

Ticket sales begin Aug. 2 at 10 a.m., with additional tranches of free and VIP tickets being offered Aug. 3 through 7 at various times. More information can be found at nyc.gov/homecomingweek.

For New Yorkers and people who across the world who can't make the show (and fall under de Blasio's previous "FOMO Alert"), it will be broadcast live on CNN.
