NYC Ferry Expands Partial Service, Some Stops Remain Closed

Ferry service had been previously shut down since Jan. 27.

NEW YORK CITY — NYC Ferry began expanding partial service on Friday as weather conditions continue to improve.

While some ferry service restart, not all routes are back online and riders should expect delays.

The ferry system has begun modified service on the East River and Astoria routes in addition to the modified Rockaway-Soundview route that was brought back on Wednesday.

The Astoria route will skip the Brooklyn Navy Yard landing due to lingering ice. On the East River route, the South Williamsburg stop will be skipped.

The St. George and South Brooklyn routes remain suspended.

The modified Rockaway-Soundview route has the following landings in service:

  • Ferry Point Park
  • Soundview
  • East 90th Street
  • East 34th Street
  • Stuyvesant Cove
  • Wall St./Pier 11

“We have been monitoring every landing to determine when and where we can safely and reliably restart service,” NYC Ferry said in a statement. “While some landings continue to see fluctuations in ice accumulation, others have become more consistently clear, making them reliable for NYC Ferry operations. We are hopeful that as temperatures rise, we will be able to re-open other routes.”

Ferry service has been shut down since Jan. 27. At that time heavy ice prevented boats from docking and some to skip stops at Brooklyn Navy Yard and Atlantic Avenue/Pier 6-Brooklyn Bridge Park.
