NYC, Lake Placid Being Eyed As Future Winter Olympics Hosts: Report
The idea of a New York City and Lake Placid partnership comes after the success of the most recent Winter Olympics in Italy.
NEW YORK CITY — Governor Kathy Hochul wants New York City and Lake Placid to host a future Winter Olympic Games, according to a report.
In an interview with The Athletic, Hochul told the outlet her intent to bring the Winter Olympics back to New York for the first time since 1980.
The idea of a New York City and Lake Placid partnership comes after the success of the most recent Winter Olympics hosted jointly by Milan and Cortina in Italy.

New York City and Lake Placid are separated by 300 miles. Lake Placid is the site which remembered for the Miracle on Ice, when the U.S. men’s hockey team upset the Soviet Union on their way to winning the gold medal.
“I want to continue that celebration and have many more Miracles on Ice in New York City and in Lake Placid," Hochul told the Athletic.

"What other part of the world can offer this opportunity to provide what New York City has but also the most beautiful place in the world, with the Adirondacks?”
The earliest the region could host the Olympic Games would be in 2042. France is set to host in 2030, Salt Lake City has been named the 2034 host and Switzerland seems likely to land the 2038 games.
New York City is being viewed as an area that could handle the influx of people with hotels and the already built infrastructure and venues to potentially accommodate indoor and outdoor sporting events.
Lake Placid could host a number of events associated with the Winter Olympics.
