NYC Subway Delays: Commuters Packed On Platforms Day After Storm
Commuters experienced service changes and heavy delays on a number of subway lines Friday morning.

NEW YORK, NY — Several subway lines were delayed for Friday morning's commute, leaving passengers stranded on packed platforms the day after a the year's first major winter storm.
Three subway lines had service changes and many more were experiencing delays Friday. The lines that appear to be most affected are the L, 7, N/Q/R/W and B/D/F/M lines, according to the MTA.
A frozen switch on the L train line at Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway forced the MTA to shut down train service between Livonia Avenue and Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway. The shutdown resulted in delays throughout the entire line, which shuttles many people from Brooklyn to Manhattan during the morning rush hour.

L service between the two stations was restored shortly before 9:30 a.m., the MTA announced.

B and Q trains were also delayed due to a "weather condition" according to the MTA. B trains ran local in both directions Friday morning between Brighton Beach and Prospect Park. Signal problems at 53rd Street and Kings Highway also caused delays along the Q line.
The 7 line was snarled due to signal problems at 40th Street in Queens, the MTA announced. Trains Main Street-bound 7 trains ran express from Queensboro Plaza to 74th Street-Broadway and Hudson Yards-bound 7 express trains ran local from Junction Boulevard to Queensboro Plaza.
Many commuters also complained about the state of their local subway stations the day after a "bomb cyclone" storm dumped several inches of snow on the city. Subway platforms were covered with snow and ice, station entrances were not shoveled and many staircases were slippery, according to commuters airing their grievances on social media. The problems seemed to occur in stations on the outer fringes of the subway system.
They shoveled the literal entry way. How about clearing the sidewalk as well? #ATrain #181Street #unimpressed pic.twitter.com/LtTlE7xtm4
