NYC Throws 'Car-Free Earth Day': Here's Where To Have Vehicle-Less Fun
Get ready to dance, listen to live music performances, take in art — and more — as the city's Open Streets season officially kicks off.
NEW YORK CITY — No car? No problem.
The largest "Car-Free Earth Day" unfolds across New York City on Saturday, with 100 open streets, 22 plazas and 1,000 miles of bike paths devoted to vehicle-less fun.
Dance, live music, art and more will take over the city's streets in nine locations spread across the five boroughs. The event is a celebration of life without cars — of which most New Yorkers are well-acquainted — and Earth Day itself, even if it's technically the day after the ecological holiday.

"New Yorkers should get out to enjoy the biggest Earth Day celebration ever," Ydanis Rodriguez, the city's transportation commissioner, said in a statement.
The day also officially kicks off the city's 2022 Open Streets season. More than 80 streets across the city will devote themselves to walking, biking and other people-oriented activities.
