NYC Trash Collection Delayed After Snowstorm, Alternate Side Parking Suspended
Snowstorm causes NYC trash and recycling delays.
NEW YORK, NY — Trash collection in New York City will not take place today following the recent snowstorm, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Tuesday, as crews prioritize clearing streets and handling the backlog of materials.
Collection will resume Wednesday evening on the 6 p.m. shift, focusing first on trash and compost. Recycling pickup is expected to resume next Monday.
“Collection trucks are the same size they’ve always been, but in many areas, twice the amount of material will be out,” Mamdani said. “Delays are possible, and we ask New Yorkers to be patient. We expect collection to return to normal by Monday.”

Alternate side parking rules will remain suspended through the end of the week. Mamdani encouraged residents to use the time to dig out their vehicles before snow hardens into ice.
All city library branches and public buildings remain open for in-person services.
