NEW YORK CITY — Another winter storm is poised to hit New York City and blanket it with up to 8 inches of heavy snow, forecasters warn.

The city is under a winter storm watch starting Thursday at 6 a.m. and lasting through Friday until 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

"Heavy snow possible," the warning states. "Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches possible."

The storm, if it hits, would be the third significant recent snowfall to befall the city.

The forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of precipitation during the day Thursday, with new snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches.

Snow along with sleet will continue that night, which has a 100 percent chance of precipitation.

Snow, mainly after 9am. High near 30. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Thursday Night
Snow before 10pm, then snow and sleet. Temperature rising to around 32 by 5am. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northeast wind 14 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday
Snow and sleet likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Saturday
Partly sunny, with a high near 34.
