NYC Warming Centers Open, Emergency Crews Respond to Blizzard
Code Blue remains in effect; city urges residents to stay indoors and avoid driving.
NEW YORK, NY — The city has opened 15 mobile warming units, 22 warming buses, 11 Health and Hospitals warming spaces, and 13 school warming centers. Outreach workers placed 79 people in shelters overnight, with the Department of Social Services opening 100 additional low-barrier stabilization beds in upper Manhattan.
“Check in on neighbors who may be struggling,” Mamdani said. Residents can call 311 for Code Blue assistance or use NYC kiosks to locate warming centers.
Power outages affected more than 11,000 New Yorkers in the Rockaways, with service restored to over 8,000 as crews worked to repair infrastructure.

NYCHA deployed staff to monitor elevators and heat issues, while the city cleared 20 bike stations by 11:30 a.m., with progress expected to accelerate throughout the afternoon.
