NYC Weather: 2 Inches Of Snow Could Fall As Temperatures Drop
New York City could be spared the brunt of a predicted "bomb cyclone" Saturday, meteorologists say — but don't pack up the snow shovels yet.
NEW YORK CITY — A looming "bomb cyclone" winter weather system could give New York City a glancing blow, according to updated forecasts. But a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow is still all but certain.
Up to 2 inches of snow could fall Saturday if temperatures drop before steady precipitation ends, a National Weather Service storm update states.
"A reasonable worst case scenario," it states.

But New York City so far appears to be spared the worst from what the Weather Channel dubbed "Winter Storm Quinlan," at least based off forecasts Friday morning.
Much of upstate New York and New Jersey, including Orange County, are under winter storm warnings, watches or advisories, according to the National Weather Service.

New York City, as of Friday morning, is not.
Snowfall of up to 6 inches is expected outside of New York City as the storm moves east, forecasters predict.
The city is still in for a nasty Saturday, even if the worst doesn't materialize, the forecast states.
Rain is likely early Saturday, before it mixes with snow and sleet between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to the forecast. Snow will fall after 3 p.m., the forecast states.
"Chance of precipitation is 100%," the forecast states.
